Help us raise the much needed funds to bring internet access to the remote communities of the Watarrka region! This end of financial year, we are calling for donations to support our Starlink satellite internet project. The Watarrka Foundation is a registered charity, so all donations are tax deductible and we will provide you with a full tax receipt.

The Watarrka Foundation considers good internet connectivity a basic right, that's why we are working to bring fast, secure and accessible internet to all communities in the Watarrka region by installing Starlink systems.

Starlink works by transmitting internet from a constellation of low-orbiting, mini satellites to a ground transceiver, making fast internet a possibility in the remote areas of the planet which would otherwise have poor to no internet access, such as the Watarrka region. The internet can then be distributed by a 'Wide Area Network' (WAN), enabling the internet to create a network over a large geographic area.

Earlier this year, the Moorabbin Rotary Club's generous support helped us install a Starlink satellite internet system at the Lilla outstation, along with the funds to cover one years worth of subscription to the service. The Starlink internet system enables children living in the Lilla region to access online education by School of the Air, and provides the community access to online medical support, tertiary educational opportunities and employment opportunities. You can read more about it here.

The Watarrka Foundation is in the process of expanding this project to the other remote communities at the Wanmarra and Ulpanyali outstations. We believe that this is an essential project which has the capacity to positively transform the day-to-day lives of Watarrka's population, and is especially beneficial for the region's youth and their education.

The hardware and a years worth of subscription to the Starlink service costs upwards of $2500, and the installation and hardware for a WAN, which is essential in distributing the internet to the community, costs approximately $9000. Any donation, big or small, will help us make a fast and secure internet connection a reality for these Indigenous communities in regional Northern Territory. Click here to donate now!
